BUILDING A BUSINESS FOCUSED ON THE PLEASURE OF HOSPITALITY

Christiane and Jean-Yves Germain were destined from birth to be entrepreneurs. Their father, Victor, is a well-known Québec City restaurateur and seasoned business owner. People would flock to his steak house in Sainte-Foy, Le Fiacre, drawn by the great food and warm hospitality. Victor, who was also in residential and commercial real estate, even treated his tenants like customers. For the Germains, hospitality is more than a virtue: it’s a value that’s deeply ingrained in their DNA.

Christiane and Jean-Yves each completed studies in hospitality before they began working in their father’s restaurants. In 1981, they pooled their resources to buy the Saint-Honoré, marking the beginning of their business partnership. A few years later, following a trip to New York and an inspiring stay in a boutique hotel, the siblings decided to build their own hotel. It was an ambitious project, and the Germains settled on a design that was somewhat bold for its time. The Germain-des-Prés opened its doors in Sainte-Foy in April of 1988. It quickly attracted customers and earned an enviable reputation, particularly for the quality of its service.
